History of Vecino Health Centers

Vecino Health Center’s history is rooted in the Denver Harbor community of Northeast Houston, where it was first established in response to a pressing need for accessible and affordable health care.

Since its inception in 1999, it has developed into a nationally recognized provider of comprehensive health services to patients through two community health centers and through outreach at six school-based sites.

Please scroll the timeline below to see many milestones in the organization’s history.

Organization is incorporated

What is now Vecino Health Centers is established in 1999 by the founders, including three church leaders, to address the number-one need in the community: primary health care. The predominately low-income, largely uninsured residents tended to either go to the hospital emergency room -- or didn't go at all -- when they became ill.
