Irma Tamayo, MD

Attending Physician, Vecino Health Centers

Dr. Tamayo is an attending physician at Vecino Health Centers. 

Education: Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Tamayo received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2017. She completed a family medicine residency with Houston Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency at Vecino’s Denver Harbor Family Clinic in 2020.

Background: Dr. Tamayo is a first-generation immigrant and native Spanish speaker. She is one of four children raised in the Rio Grande Valley by a single working mother. 

With that background, she quickly understands and appreciates the challenges that many patients face.

Her interest in medicine began at an early age. Two of Dr. Tamayo’s uncles were doctors in Mexico when she was growing up. She remembers thinking about a career in medicine when she was just a child  playing with some of their medical tools.

Dr. Tamayo is fluent in English and Spanish.
